In one sentence, what kind of company is this?

Spectrum Tokyo is a company that plans and runs events for "designers" in the tech industry.

By designers, we mean the professionals who shape how easy to use — and how good-looking — smartphone apps and websites are. Japan is said to have over 100,000 people in this profession, and we create the spaces where they learn from and connect with one another.

If we had to compare it: a small company with three faces — an event company, a publisher, and a travel company.

How we earn our revenue

There are three main businesses.

01

Hosting our own events

Several times a year, we host industry events for hundreds of people. Through talks and networking, participants gain new knowledge and connections.

Revenue comes from participant ticket sales and sponsorship fees from partner companies. Tech companies including note, GMO, and DMM.com have sponsored us to date.

Flagship events
  • Spectrum Tokyo Festival (annual / 2 days / 300–400 people)
  • Design Matters Tokyo (the Japan edition of an international event from Denmark)
  • Yoitoi Summit (a one-day event centered on dialogue)
  • Monthly small-scale study sessions and meetups
02

Producing events commissioned by companies

We take on requests such as "we want to hold an internal training event" or "we want to host an industry forum," handling everything from planning through to running the event on the day.

We apply the experience and know-how built through years of running our own events directly for our clients. We also take on planning-stage consultations (consulting) on their own.

03

Immersive tours for designers from abroad

We plan and run immersive, multi-day programs that invite designers working overseas to regional Japan to experience local culture and craftsmanship.

The first edition is scheduled for November 2026 in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Why we do this work

Apps and websites have become as essential to daily life as electricity or running water. Making them easy and safe for anyone to use is a designer's job.

But this work doesn't improve by sitting alone at a desk. It matters to know how people at other companies are solving things, and to have peers you can talk with about your struggles.

Our job is to create the places where that can happen. An event is a single dot, but the connections made there become a line that continues. That's what we believe.
